(The Power of Vulnerability)
A couple of years ago, an event planner named Maeve called me to talk about a special event. She said, “I’m struggling with how to write about you on the little flip cards.” I said, “Well, just write I’m a researcher and storyteller.” She said, “I’m going to call you a courage researcher.” I said, “Whoa, why did you do that?” She said, “Because I’m struggling with this concept of vulnerability. I’ve been thinking about it, and I think that it’s not about winning or losing. I think it’s about having the courage to show up and be seen when we can’t control the outcome.”
The number one result from my research was: vulnerability is the core of shame and fear, but it’s also the birthplace of joy, creativity, and belonging. The story I’m going to tell you is about a woman who, at 28, was diagnosed with Stage IV breast cancer. Her name is Joan, and she told me, “You know what the most dangerous thing about my illness was? It was the urge to hide. When I finally started letting people in, I realized that they weren’t just giving me their support; they were giving me their love.”
So I started looking at what makes people embrace vulnerability. What makes them say, “I’m all in”? The research showed me that they have a sense of worthiness. They believe that they are enough. This is the part that breaks my heart. It’s the willingness to say, “I have no idea how to approach this, but I’m going to have a go anyway.” Vulnerability is not weakness. It’s our greatest measure of courage.

Brené Brown
例如:“Last week, a colleague asked me why I always volunteer for the hardest projects. I told her: because that’s where I learn the most.”(这样开头比”今天我想谈谈学习的重要性”更吸引人。)
