Four Powerful Ways to Open a Business Presentation
1. The Hook — Start with a Surprising Statistic
“Let me start with a number. According to McKinsey, companies that fully embrace AI could double their cash flow by 2030. That’s not a prediction — it’s already happening in early adopters. So the question is not whether AI will change our industry. The question is: will we lead the change, or will we be left behind?”
A strong statistic grabs attention immediately. It makes the audience think, “I need to pay attention.” The key is to choose a number that is unexpected but credible, and then connect it directly to your audience’s world.
2. The Question — Provoke Curiosity
“Raise your hand if you’ve ever sat through a meeting and thought, ‘This could have been an email.’ … Okay, I see most of you. Now imagine — what if we could cut meeting time in half and double the quality of decisions? That’s exactly what I’m going to show you today.”
A rhetorical or interactive question creates an immediate mental engagement. When people answer (even silently), they become participants, not passive listeners. The best questions identify a shared pain point and promise a solution.
3. The Story — Make It Personal
“Three years ago, I walked into my first boardroom pitch. I had 45 slides, a laser pointer, and absolutely no idea what I was doing. The client fell asleep — literally, I saw them yawn. That was the moment I realized: nobody cares about your slides. They care about what your idea means for them.”
Stories trigger emotional engagement. A short, relatable anecdote — especially one that shows vulnerability or a lesson learned — builds trust and rapport faster than any data set ever could.
4. The Bold Statement — Take a Stand
“I’m going to say something that might surprise you: The traditional five-year strategic plan is dead. In today’s world, if you’re planning five years ahead, you’re planning for a world that no longer exists. What we need instead is something I call ‘adaptive strategy’ — and I’m going to show you how it works.”
A provocative statement challenges the audience’s assumptions. It creates cognitive dissonance — they either agree or disagree, but either way, they’re listening. The key is to back it up immediately with your argument.

- 跟读练习:大声朗读 3 遍,特别注意排比句(“The question is not… The question is…”)
❌ 不先道歉 — 永远不要说 “Sorry, I’m not very prepared” 或 “I’m not good at public speaking”。
用一句话建立关联性,比如 “I’ve been working on this problem for the past three years, and here’s what I’ve learned.”
❌ 不先讲背景 — 不要以 “Our company was founded in 2005 and we specialize in…”
